Founded in 1906 RICHTER RASEN is one of Europe’s leading producers in turf grass. The company’s headquarter is located in Lower Austria in the district of Baden. Production on the highest level takes place on more than 300 hectares size in Burgenland, Austria and in Zahorie,Slovakia. The company supplies football stadiums and golf courses all over Europe, as well as gardens and playgrounds with natural turf.
Sports turf presents one of the company’s specialities and it is also characterized by distinct features that confront the producers with particular challenges. Sports turf has to be extraordinarily resistant, playable at rain and heat and at the same time it must provide good optical aspect at any time. RICHTER RASEN is well-known and recognized for its profound, long-time expertise and innovative natural turf grass products – also in the context of the UEFA EURO 2008TM. Managing director Alexander J. Richter states: “I am very proud of our `final game turf´ in Vienna’s Ernst-Happel-Stadium. We are going to provide the city of Vienna an emergency team during the European championship and we are able to easily replace single pieces of turf if needed.
Professional football players play on turf “made in Austria and Slovakia“ RICHTER RASEN has produced several fields of Europe’s most famous stadiums, such as the Ernst-Happel-Stadium in Vienna, the Giuseppe-Meazza-Stadium in Milan and the Stadio delle Alpi in Turin, Italy, the HSH Nordbank Arena in Hamburg and 1st FC Nuremberg Germany, as well as the new stadium in the Ukrainian city Donezk and many more.
Pannonian climate favours the quality Due to the unique pannonian climate, the turf of RICHTER RASEN is especially hard-wearing and resistant. The grass grows for around two years and therefore has to come through two full winter periods which makes it stronger and more resistant. Richter explains: ”Temperatures in the pannonian area reach from minus 30 to over plus 40 degrees Celsius. Stadium Turfgrass that survives in this climate is applicable everywhere – from Russia to Portugal.”
High-tech products for sports turf “Stadion®“ turf has been developed particularly for the requirements of football fields. The grass is extremely dense and tear-proof and therefore resists extraordinary burdens. RICHTER RASEN has in this context also invested into the portable ITM TM sports turf system for the complex environments of football fields which is being applied mostly in American stadiums. It can be aerated and heated from underneath and built-in sensors monitor and regulate the biological system.
In the spotlight: Quality and innovation Since its foundation RICHTER RASEN has declared quality and innovation to be the company’s main goals. As a pioneer in the turf grass industry and Austria’s first producer of turf grass the firm engages in ongoing research in order to optimize its grass. The company grows a wide range of variouse grass species that can be applied in all different kinds of environments. To constantly improve the state-of-the-art technology, RICHTER RASEN takes an active part in international turf grass research and has established relationships with universities and research institutions worldwide that benefit from the company’s expertise and long-time experience. Alexander J. Richter is board member of the International Turfgrass Society and co-founder of the European Turfgrass Society.
The future: specialization in the heart of Europe With its production fields in Slovakia and several projects in Eastern Europe – among others nine Polish football stadiums in preparation for the football champions league in 2012 – RICHTER RASEN has clearly positioned itself as a Central European company. Alexander J. Richter’s vision:” I am an enthusiastic European – and I pursue the idea my great grandfather already had when founding the company: the transboundary transfer of goods and know-how“.
